Readying the sewing supplies! School starts next week!

I'm so excited for my kids to be back in school.  I know I should feel a little sad but they sure do wear you out all day long.  My lovely 6 yr old talks non-stop and my ears hurt so much!  School started back up for me on Monday (graduate school) and I like to have a quiet house during the day to work on my assignments.

I also love the quiet house so I can rest in peace sew in my room all to myself. I've been readying my supplies these last 2 weeks or so and plan to have a whirlwind of things to do.  I shared a few posts of materials I ordered plus I found some steals at goodwill (see below)

Goodwill finds:
Red rayon fabric: 4 yards!! only $4!!!
Blue cotton fabric: 2 yards, $3
Floral stripe: 2 yards, $1
Green Soccer: 1 yard, $1
Pokemon sheet!: twin, $4
Vintage yellow floral sheet!: full, $4

I managed a quick visit to Mill End Textiles in Eau Claire but wasn't all that impressed.  I think Fabric.com has spoiled me way too much.  My kiddos managed to get me to buy them some minky-type fabric for what else, pj pants.

Miss K picked the top light blue and white zebra print.
Mr. T picked the blue and green cheetah print.

Yes, my kids are weird. :-)

I ordered some things last night via amazon and eBay and they should be here by Friday!!! YAY!
(However, I have found the best way to save money is to stay off amazon and eBay late at night!!!)

2 new feet for my Brother Sewing machine. I'm super pumped about both!

And I snagged a massive amount of vintage buttons on eBay. These 2 pictures aren't even the half of it.

As you can see between all the fabric I've been ordering and supplies I've been stocking up on, I have a lot to do starting next week!!

As summer comes to an end I look forward to fall sewing.

Voile ~ upcoming skirts

I placed another order today for some beautiful voile!  I had to share.  I fell in absolute love with the ivory floral one!  I will be making 2 skirts for myself and 1 for Miss K with the voile and adding a lining.  I think I'll try Anna Maria Horner's Flirting the issue free skirt pattern.  It looks really cute and fast.
I was able to 5 yards of fabric and 4 yards of lining for only $35!  Love it!

(Oh! and the kids will be in school soon so I can be back to my sewing days in peace again! YAY!)

Buttercup bag and a day at the fair!

Today I sold the last buttercup bag I had in my etsy shop! YAY!  I was thrilled but then I realized I really, really need to be making stuff for the shop.  It's so hard when either I or my daughter wants to keep everything that I make!

I finished this beautiful navy floral buttercup bag just now and remembered that I really love sewing them up!

My baby also had a dance recital today so we went out for that.  The carnival was a blast!
Me and my baby girl right before the recital, Miss K was so nervous.

My baby doing her dance number

This is Mr. T on the purple and Miss K on the pink!  Love the faces :-)  (Mr. Sunny is at the top of the pink one - he took Miss K up)

The green arrow on the top right shows Mr. Sunny's head, Mr. T is with him.  They were both sorta sick after this ride. LOL

I hope you all had a great Saturday

Upcoming projects

I'm near the end of this dreadful cold and I've been thinking a lot about what early fall projects I want to get into.  I thought I'd share with you!

I'm very excited to make 2 new tops of View B and/or View E in New Look A 6871
I plan on using a cotton fabric from October Afternoon (love seaside!) shown here:
Seaside Bikini Blue

and another out of this cute fabric here (a. because it's cheap and b. because it's Rayon Challis so it will drape well):
Rayon Challis Blooms Grey/Fuchsia

I also plan on making View C of Simplicity 2377 in corduroy for Miss K with these cute fabrics:
Kaufman 21 Wale Corduroy Peacock and    Kaufman 21 Wale Cool Cords Owls Harvest Natural                  Child's Dresses
so it will be blue, owl, blue :-) (I love this pattern too! - as seen HERE and HERE and HERE)

I also want to make her another corduroy dress with View A Simplicity 2874

I picked up a hot pink apple pattern with navy and lime green (a very long time ago from Hancock's) ~ it's wild! I want to use that for all over and then the band on the bottom I plan on using a light blue.  I can't wait to get it done!

I also downloaded a new Oliver + S pattern for the Sunday brunch jacket

I have a really cute tan-ish corduroy fabric with blue, brown and etc. flowers on it.  I picked it up at the same time as the apple cord (a long time ago).

I really love the jacket pattern and it got good reviews on patternreview.com so I'm hopeful.

I wanted to get some things sew up for me too such as:

Also, Miss K wants to be Rainbow Brite for Halloween and Mr. T wants to be Charmeleon from Pokemon.

So I have big projects to get started on and a few left to complete.....
     - rose pj's need sleeves for miss k
     - Pooh crayon belt
    - fix floral knit dress to skirt
    - hem and waist on floor length turquoise knit dress
    - DH and my fleece team pj pants

Even when I'm sick I'm still dreaming in my head of sewing......... ;-)

What projects are you all getting started on or planning on completing in the next few months?

The sickness has hit our house :(

Hello all.  The last couple of days we have caught a really nasty bug at our house.  It started with Mr. T, who is now over it, and proceeded to infect us all.  I don't think I've had a full nights sleep in days now and it isn't pleasant.  Who gets a bad cold the end of summer???  Ugh.

Anyway, no sewing for me since the nightgown last week because of the sickness.  I hope to turn the corner soon and be back up and moving.

Until then, I hope all of your sewing projects are going how you want them too! :-)

Nightgown for Miss K ~ Mix-up of Simplicity 2831

I know, I know.  I seem to sew up a lot of pajamas.  It's just that I love, love, love flannel and my kids love fuzzy things.  I have a ton of flannel I need to use up before my big fabric binge in 3 weeks here.  I've been on the search for a cute nightgown pattern for Miss K and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
Today I took a mix-up of Simplicity 2831

Simplicity sewing pattern 2831: Child/Girl Sleepwear size K5 (7-8-10-12-14)

I used pattern pieces for the top of View C and the bottom and back pieces for View A.  Miss K was with me in my sewing room and picked out the buttons she wanted and the ribbon.  I pleaded for a deep blue but she is all about the pinks and purples.

I vaguely followed the directions because I remembered sewing the last nightgown from View A.  I really didn't like the placket part and it doesn't look so nice after being washed and dried.  I used a straight size 8 for Miss K because she is growing like a weed.  :(  Where did my baby go?

The top has a ribbon by the gathers, it is just topstitched on.  Miss K stated "no bow" so it is just the ribbon. I should have incorporated it to the back too now that I sit and think about it but oh-well.  We added the 3 purple buttons on the chest for some decoration.

The sleeves have elastic in them.  I used the same pink ribbon for the casing.

The neck had bias tape that was supposed to be exposed on the top but I really didn't like it; so I flipped it over and topstitched her neckline.  It turned out great. (don't look at my terrible nail polish!)

All in all it was really simple to do and took me only an afternoon.  The bottom ruffle I ended up flipping in half so I didn't have to do a hem ;-)

The best part about this fabric is that I snagged it from clearance remnants at my Wal-Mart. 1 1/2 yards for only $2.73!! :-)  YAY!  It looks so cute on Miss K.  I'm happy with how it turned out but I still am searching for the perfect nightgown for her.  (I have a vintage pattern I want to try out next but with some soft cotton).
