Maxi Dress ~ Ottobre 03/2013 #34 Movimiento

I've been wanting to make Miss K a maxi dress since last summer.  She loves carefree and comfortable.

I took Ottobre 03/2013 #34 Movimiento and lengthened it into a maxi instead of a tunic.

Miss K is a size 8 RTW so I used size 146 - then lengthened off about 6 more inches?  I'm not exactly sure but I measured Miss K from her shoulder to the floor and used that length. I eliminated the casing in the pattern although next time I might keep it to break up the top and bottom.  Miss K is shaped straight as a board so the maxi looks cute on her.  The bottom was more "A" shaped than straight and it works perfect for an active girl!

I used a zig-zag stitch on the bottom hem because Miss K is rough on knits.  I also used twill tape in the shoulders and back neckline so no sagging would occur.

I fully lined the dress because the jersey was a bit see through

The binding is with the same fabric
It was so fun using my little binding maker!

Breakdown:
Cotton Blend Jersey Knit Hibiscus Blue/White 1.5 yards $7.11
Stretch Lining Jersey Knit White - a blend of Poly and lycra - very soft and lightweight 1.5 yards $6.35
Total: $13.46

Conclusion:  I love this maxi for her.  The pattern was easy to manipulate and simple to sew.  I honestly didn't look at the instructions once.  Sew one shoulder, attach neck binding.  Sew other shoulder, attach armhole bindings.  Sew sides and hem.  So sweet and to the point.  The lining was very slippery and was the only "tough" part of this dress to sew.

Funny story about the Hibiscus Jersey.  I bought it to make myself a maxi (in Jan? Feb?). My pattern called for 2 yards which I purchased.  I went to cut it out and didn't have enough for the back skirt portion.  I went to reorder and it was already out of stock.  So I used it for Miss K instead!

  1. Very nice! I really like this without the casing, as a maxi dress! I'll have to revisit this pattern...

    1. Thanks Joy! The more I see her run around in it the more I like it. Plus, no leggings are needed underneath because it is nice and long :-)

I'd love to see your version!

  2. Very pretty! I have been procrastinating on getting me a binding tool. I really like the results you had with it. It looks to be easier than doing the neck and armhole binding the other way!

    1. Thanks :-) I really love my binding tool. It is so inexpensive too! I can surely make binding without it but it is fast and produces perfect binding each time! They are only about $6 you should give one a try!
