Me Made May - Final Week!

Final Week! May 25-31

You can find other weeks in my 2025 Me Made May journey here:

Week 1 of Outfits Week 2 of Outfits Week 3 of Outfits Week 4 of Outfits

Day 25:

mmm25 day 25a

Nightshirt: Jalie 4459 - Joanie Tee and dress. I made it sometime in the last year. Someday I'll blog it (like soon soon shhhh). It's super comfortable in this waffle knit from Fabric Mart. As you can tell I’m laying low today.

I love this pattern and it can be a comfy nightgown, a comfy dress, or it can be accessorized and made into a fancier dress.  I will blog this soon so keep an eye out for all the details.

Day 26

Day 27

Day 28:

mmm25 day 28b

I’m wearing clothes, so I must be heading out of the house somewhere, LOL.  I had to be up in Rochester Mayo today for a worthless GI appointment that got me nowhere.  Of all the doctors out there, I feel the GI department is the one that lets me down the most.  They have no answers, they don’t listen, and they don’t seem to care. I have a lot of specialists, but the GI ones are the most lacking and most gaslighting.

Anyway, my outfit.

Top: Jalie - 3667 Marie Claude, made April 2018 in an awesome slub knit from Stylish Fabrics Bottoms: my favorite pair of comfy pants. Burda 11-2007-122, made Aug 2020

Thoughts: I really, really love both these patterns.  I made the top just a handful of times, 3, but will make more.

I have made the pants many times before (at least 7!).  I love how they fit, how they look, and the ease of sewing them.  This outfit together is 5-star for me. Put together, yet comfortable; and that is a win in my book.

Top made before: 1. Dec 2017 in Floral French Terry, 2. Dec 2017 in plaid French Terry for Miss K. Bottoms made before: 1 Sept 2017 black stripe for Miss K, 2&3 Dec 2017 Red yoga for me, Dec 2017 purple stripe for me, 4 Dec 2019 red xmas pjs for Miss K, 5 Dec 2020 a fun fruity pair for Miss K, 6 Jan 2022 a rayon jersey tie-dye for Miss K

Day 29

Day 30

Last day of MeMadeMay - Day 31

Another outfit I love to wear.  And what fun is MMM without a photobomb from Mr. Bennie Bear? Smile mmm25 day 31a Top: Patterns for Pirates - Sweet Tee, made May 2019 in Brushed DTY Stretch from Stylish fabrics Skirt: New Look 6054, made June 2015 in Rayon Challis from Hancock Fabrics.

This skirt is wonderful! I love to wear it. It is out of super soft Rayon Challis and every time I find a pattern I like in Rayon Challis I scoop that fabric up!  It is one of my favorite pattern types.  The top is so easy to throw on and wear and it is a very fast sew.  I find it very flattering too. I have sewn these patterns 3 times each now.

Top made before: 1. Red Jersey Knit, 2017 2. plain black, May 2016 3. teal floral, Sept 2017 Skirt made before: 1. June 2012, view D in quilting cotton 2. July 2012, View A in a Linen blend

I sort of fell off on the last week of Me Made May.  I got lazy and I was tired from what the month threw at me.  I did learn a lot about what colors look better on me, what outfits I love, what patterns I love, and what I like to wear that makes me feel good.

I’m also trying to come to terms with where my life is right now.  I have fought my body, kicking and screaming, for years, a decade, forever – refusing to believe that I have a brain tumor.  That I suffer so much.  That I cannot do some things anymore.  That at 46, my life is what it is. My energy just isn’t what I want.  My mind wants to DO DO DO and my body just doesn’t. It is an internal struggle that I have each day.  (My therapist would be so proud of this paragraph).

I used to sew daily.  I used to have joy and smile and laugh.  Nowadays it is hard to do either as there is just so much suffering.  I have to relearn many things as I lost a lot of brain connections after the craniotomy.  My brain forgets things easily and I have to think harder and repeat some things to get those connections back. Many things are just harder due to the surgery. This has been hard for me to accept. Its not what I planned for my life! (Yes, I know, no one plans these things).

However, I’m not giving up on my sewing.  It is a piece of me I refuse to let go of.  I just need to make some adaptations and go at a slower pace. I need to realize what my body can do each day before I get to the point of pushing too much and then needing days to recover.

Me Made May is a wonderful way to connect to the sewing community, to find new patterns and new sewists.  It is a wonderful journey each year that helps me learn so much about my sewing and the way things fit (or don’t fit) my body type.  I love to participate each year and I get so excited to see what everyone else is wearing.  I look forward to next year’s Me Made May and I thank you for being on my journey this month with me.

I will return to posting the things I have been sewing.  I still have a backlog of some things I haven’t shared yet.  My next post will be the new Jalie Pauline pattern and the newish Jalie Joanie pattern (both excellent).  Keep moving forward.  Don’t give up your joy.  Find a way.  <3

Happy Sewing!

Me Made May - Week 4

Week 4 of Me Made May the 18th to the 24th.

Week 1 of Outfits Week 2 of Outfits Week 3 of Outfits

Day 18

Glamorous? No. Comfortable? Yes.

20250517_18080820250517_1808151 Just trying to rest and restore at home today. I have this “rule” about not wearing skin colored clothing.  These leggings are very close to breaking that rule but they are Double brushed Poly and soft.  They were a test quick sew up for me of the P4P peglegs.  I made them with no addons and kept them super simple as leggings.  They would be great in a different color LOL but for a test sew, around the house wear, they are just fine.  I made them to wear under one of most favorite dresses.  Sadly that dress didn’t fit for long as I was learning about fabrics back then and Ponte doesn’t have much give.  I still hold hope that one day I will be able to wear that fantastic dress again.

The top, I cannot say enough good things about it.  It is flowy, so cute in the back, easy to sew, and I love both the pattern and fabric.  It is a top I wear a lot. I made it in a soft ITY (one of my favorite fabrics to use because of the excellent drape and cooling feeling).  I need to remember to make more.

Top: Jalie 3886 - Julia Camisole, made March 2018 Bottoms: Patterns for Pirates - Peglegs leggings, made Sept 2016

Day 19 Dentist today, Ugh Sad smile those flares though! LOVE them!!  I love an awesome flared leg. 20250519_103546

This hoodie I made in April 2015. I find it funny how it's one of my most worn hoodies since at first I wasn't sure if I even liked it. In xxx I added the graphic with my silhouette cameo and I have loved the hoodie ever since.  I have made this pattern countless times and I consider it a gold star TNT pattern for both the hoodie and sweatpants.

20250519_103505 The jeans.  OMG can we talk about the jeans?  Of course they are the Ginger Jeans by Closet Core.  I started making them in Feb 2018 and then set them aside for no real reason. Sewing jeans are not hard.  They are just sooooo time consuming.  This fabric is luscious!!! It is a super soft denim in a wonderful gray color with just the right about of stretch (a rare unicorn) . I embroidered the pockets on my embroidery machine, after seeing all the cool designs @kid_md puts on hers.  I am over the moon in love with these jeans.  I’m glad they fit me again, like a glove! 20250519_103653 Top: Jalie 3355- hoodie, made April 2015, I added the graphic Dec 2015.

I have sewn the hoodie 9 times now and the pants 3 times.

Other Jalie 3355 Hoodie makes: 1. Selkie Song of the Sea – Oct 2017 2. Dark Gray Hoodie for Mr. T – Nov 2017 3. Gray Yellow Brick Road Hoodie for me – Nov 2016 4. Purple plain hoodie for Miss K – Nov 2016 5. Red Kitty Hoodie for Miss K – Apr 2016 6. Purple Alice In Wonderland Hoodie for me – Apr 2015 7. Teal Rainbow for Miss K – Mar 2015 8.Purple Pac Man for Miss K -Mar 2015 9.Black Polka Dot hoodie for Miss K – Jan 2015 Bottoms: Closet Core - Ginger jeans, started Feb 2018 and finished May 2020.  (this is my 2nd pair of Ginger jeans, here is my 1st pair June 2017) and my pair of Ginger jean shorts July 2020).

Thoughts:  I love both makes.  I wear them all the time.  My Alice hoodie I have worn every single MeMadeMay since 2015, so this is its golden decade year this year.  I will definitely continue to use this pattern in the future and you will see more hoodies and pants.  The jeans, you know I will continue to use this pattern and make more!!  Sourcing the denim is always tough but I have a large stash hidden away. I just need to make the time and effort.

Day 20

Monthly Vet appointment for Bennie Bear (allergy shot).

My body trying to fight me but I'm a Warrior. Epilepsy, brain tumor, autoimmune, nothing will keep me down. Just try and sock it to me; I can take it like a Pro. I keep moving forward. Just keep moving forward. Put on a face and pretend if I have to. 20250516_11433720250516_114345

This outfit makes me feel good.  I love how it looks on my body shape and I should make more, LOL.  This is why I love Me Made May.  Taking the photos and doing all the write ups is time consuming but so helpful.  I see what looks good on my body and what doesn’t with sewing patterns, fabrics, colors, etc.  It helps me feel good when I find an outfit that I’m like Woah, this one feels great to wear and gives me some confidence.  This is one of those outfits.  I love black and gray on me.  These both are super comfortable fabrics and patterns to wear, yet I look put together.  Both are for sure added to my “to sew” list for the future.

The top is a burnout knit from FabricMart that I made back in June 2015.  I have sewn this tank in different views and fabrics 5 times now.  It is a great pattern to have.  It is also a 1 yard wonder! (I love those).  The bottoms are also a super favorite in my house. This pair is from a super soft Double brushed Poly from KnitPop.  I have sewn this pattern NINE times now, possibly more.  There will be even more!

top: New Look 6470, made June 2015.

Other makes from this pattern

1. Blue ITY, July 2014 2. Black ITY, June 2015 3. Red Cotton Lycra, June 2015 4. Amazing ITY, July 2015 bottoms: Jalie 3022, made April 2019.

Other makes from this pattern

1. Black plain  2. Hunter Green 3. Green Shorts 4. Teal Pants 5. Black and White  6. Black for Miss K  7. Navy Cotton Lycra 8. Navy Ponte

Day 21

Monday dentist. Tuesday vet. Today. . . ugh. spoon deficit. Chilin’ at home today.  Recharging my batteries.

20250521_153215

I have made this pattern twice now.  It is a lovely vintage pattern.  I like to lounge around in it. I didn’t show it here, but in my original post linked below I gave a side shot of the curved hem.

It is the perfect length, it is super comfortable, and I love that curved hem on the sides.

Nightgown: Vintage Kwik Sew 630, made July 2022. The other one I made was in a Rayon spandex, Jan 2022

Day 22

Rest and Recharge Day

Day 23

Song of the Sea, Saoirse (SheerSha) Hoodie and Jalie Yoga pants.

20250523_12530420250523_125312 Top: Jalie 3355, made Oct 2017 for Miss K. I knew she probably wouldn't wear it much and this fabric was $$$. So I made it a little big for her (so it would fit me too, lol, knowing I would get it someday). The only part that bothers me about the hoodie is the fabric.  I bought it from Wanderlust custom fabric on Facebook and I am quite disappointed in how much the fabric has faded over washings.  This fabric was not cheap at all and the black seems to be just washing away.   As I stated and linked above on Day 19, I've sewn this Jalie pattern 9 times now, and sewn the pants part 3 times now, it is a favorite. Also, you should watch this movie, it is Amazing too!!! One of my top 3 favs. 20250523_125319 Navy Bottoms: Jalie 3022, made May 2019. Also I have sewn this pattern NINE times now, possibly more as stated and linked on Day 20 above.

Day 24

I don't think I ever blogged this quick and cute dress. I know I posted it on Instagram quick when I made it.

20250524_111155 It was a fast cleanser sew after the loooong monster linen Ottobre coat sew. Someday I'll blog this. Its a cute dress and doesn’t take much fabric or time to sew.  *Funny story, my husband was too embarrassed to go with me to Home Depot in this dress as he thought it was too short.  Jokes on him, I have other dresses even shorter! Shrug.  It is cute, its quick and I might make more someday because it is super comfortable to just throw on and wear. Dress: Patterns for Pirates - Sweet Tee, made Nov, 12 2020 (unblogged but quick pic on instagram). I have sewn this Sweet Tee Pattern a few other times though (the tee is a 1 yard wonder): 1. Black DBP, May 2019 2 Red Jersey Knit, 2017 3. plain black, May 2016 4. teal floral, Sept 2017

Whew! That's it for week 4 of Me Made May.  I will post next Friday or Saturday the final week of Me Made May 2025 outfits, and then move on to some things I’ve sewn!

Oh! I did finish this embroidery this week (As in July 17, 2025).  The pattern is from Sweet Pea Embroidery and it is a cute Butterfly Table Center.  I didn’t realize until after it was all embroidered, sewn together, and and backed, that I made one mistake…. Oh Well! I am not fixing it, lol. 20250717_144013

Happy Sewing! Kristin

Me Made May - Week 3

Sorry, I meant to post this yesterday but things went circus crazy around here.  We leased a Kia SUV in January (high tech, low payment) and turned in our Ram Truck lease in March. . . We realized very quickly that we are truck people and used our truck way more than we thought we did. . .  in 2018 we leased a 2019 Ram, in 2021 we had the 2022 Ram until March 2025.  Then all of a sudden 6 years of being truck people we were back in an SUV, and sorry, hated it.

We have been scoping out older trucks to buy since getting rid of the truck in March, but I have certain requirements (super bass and subwoofer please) and my husband has certain requirements (rain sensitive wipers and such).  We did agree we are Ram people.  So we kept looking and looking and looking all these months. Thursday, we found a Ram truck we both LOVED that checked every box (except adaptive cruise).  Test drove it and it was LOVE. Friday, yesterday, the bank called to say yes to the loan. the dealership said yes to the sale, the other lease dealership said yes to the lease cancellation, Mr. T was texting me about something urgent, my husband was texting me, my mom needed an embroidery design fixed, and 2 other dealership people texting too! …. all at the same time! It made my head spin.  So Friday: Mr Sunny left work early and helped Mr. T look at a new house to rent, then picked up our groceries and came to pick up me.  I was home fervently cleaning the Kia to turn in. He got home and then we left to pick up check at bank, drop of Kia and sign it away, get picked up by my mom (thanks mom!) and drive to the other vehicle in Minnesota, buy the Ram, and finally come home and fall into a blob on the floor.  It was a CRAZY day!!!! Plus I had to cancel Kia insurance, add Ram insurance, Transfer our XM radio, etc.  switching vehicles sucks!

Whew. Today, I feel down the stairs.  Sigh. No bones broken thankfully.  But this is the 4th time I’ve fallen down the stairs in 5 years. :/ It makes me angry. It hurts of course.  I am super careful on the stairs, too.  I don’t understand why I keep falling down the damn stairs! I’m very bruised up and mad, but I’ll heal.

Meanwhile, back to Week 3 of Me Made May the 11th to the 17th.

Week 1 of Outfits  Week 2 of Outfits Day 11, 81°F (27°C) Today I did a bunch of cooking and baking. I have way overdone it to make up for yesterday and I’ll pay for it tomorrow. (check out Week 2 of MMM post to see what I did yesterday and all my makes last week). 20250511_171313

This is from the now closed (sad) Stitch Upon A Time or SUAT patterns. It is the Spoxxy Tank dress. This is another absolute favorite pattern to sew and wear. It is easy, fast, and I love racerbacks. I made it Oct 2022 for a nightgown and it is one of my most worn.

20250511_171319 Blog: https://sunnysewing.com/2022/11/02/2-nightgowns-and-a-tank-love-notions-and-stitch-upon-a-time/ Made twice before: orange striped tank in 2016 and Blue/White ITY Nightgown in 2019 Thoughts: The above Spoxxy, the Halla Agnes, and the Love Notions Laundry Day Tee (dress) are all similar and so much my favorites to wear around the house.  Easy to wear, easy to wash, easy to sew. I’m sure I will make many more in the future.

Day 12, 87°F (30°C)

Today I need to get some laptop stuff done. There’s a low-pressure system going thru as well and that makes my head all sorts of wonky. So, I’m pretty much hanging low today. I might get in my sewing room, might not. Yesterday I did too much, typical after a bad day the day before – and now I pay the price today.  I know the cycle and I should know better, but, shrug. #autoimmuneproblems

This is where everything went downhill, right after writing this up and after the photo, I had a cluster of seizures (status epilepticus), and ended up spending 7 hrs in the ER :( My head is still all wonky and I feel awful and pissed off and my whole week has been crap. I hate seizures. I hate the lack of control and the unpreparedness. I hate the pain and that there are no answers or ways to control mine. 11 meds tried. not one has controlled them. I would like to just be human and live life. Looking at this photo you would never know that mess was coming in minutes.

10gff-7 Back to the outfit. Pulling these out of a drawer is like pulling out a favorite, loved blanket. Soft and comforting. They are going on 8+ years of wear now; I consider them a definite win. The fabric fades more and more each wash, it was from fashion fabrics club. The top is a good but slightly-too-big and the shorts are a slightly-too-small, lol. But I wear them.

Top: Ottobre 02/2007 No. 1 Tank Top, made in Aug 2016

Shorts: Jalie 2445 shorts, made May 2017

Blog top: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2016/08/cardi-and-tanks-jalie-p4p-ottobre.html Made before: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2015/06/new-look-6470-and-ottobre-022007-1.html Blog Shorts: https://sunnysewing.com/2022/01/16/jalie-2445-with-an-ottobre-tank-jalie-3355/ Made twice before for Miss K: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2016/04/clothes-for-girl.html

Thoughts: I like the shorts, but need it a size bigger.  I love the top but need it a bit smaller.  LOL time to make more! I love this cotton lycra fabric but sad it fades so much.

Day 13, Day 14, and Day 15

Recuperating from ER visit and still wonky head. Didn’t move from bed.

Day 16 20250516_152027 I have my follow up today with my primary doctor about the ER visit.  I’m still laying low, still feeling like crud, and I despise having to alter my meds. My body just doesn’t tolerate medication changes well at all. However, I LOVE THIS DRESS. I made it April 2020. It is Miss Ruby Tuesday by 1 Puddle Lane. I always feel good wearing it. Plus it's super fast and easy to throw on (bonus: This pattern has a ton of options). Honestly, It all started when I saw a ton of people making his dress back in 2020 or 2019, and every time I saw it, I wanted it!  I like to put on something I feel good in to cover up how cruddy I feel. blogged: https://sunnysewing.com/2020/06/19/miss-ruby-tuesday-dress-1-puddle-lane/

Thoughts: Well as I said above, I LOVE THIS DRESS! I can throw it on and go.  Secret Pajamas for sure!  The pattern comes with a number of options and combos and I can’t wait to sew them all!!  One heads up for my bicep friendly sewists: the sleeves are insanely small.  I had to widen them a lot (my blogpost discusses this). So, there will be more of these made! There will be different top and skirt choices made.  The pattern is totally worth getting and wow what an assortment to pick from to sew.  Spin the wheel and you get a new combo every time!   Here are some of the options offered.

Day 17

Sorry, short week of makes. I was still feeling awful today and didn’t get out of bed.

This was a really hard week for me both physically/medically and mentally.  I do not want to accept that I have a brain tumor. That I had a craniotomy in 2021. That I now have epilepsy.  That I have a ton of other autoimmune disorders I have struggled with since 2010.  Sometimes I am just over it all. My depression takes over and drags me down a deep dark hole.  (yes I am in therapy and love my therapist).  Sometimes I’m just OVER IT ALL!!!  I was so excited to participate in this year’s Me Made May due to having to sit out the last few years due to my health and weight. And I thought things were going along well enough that I could do everyday this year and then BOOM my body betrays me and all havoc breaks out.  I should expect this by now. But I refuse to accept it because then it will be real and I don’t want this for my life.

Anyway.  This is week 3 of my Me Made May outfits  There are 2 full weeks left to share (because week 1 was only 3 days).  So I look forward to showing you more makes next Friday!

Take care and Happy Sewing my friends! Kristin

Me Made May continues! Here is Week 2

Me Made May Week 2 May 4-10 Day 4 Today Is in two parts. It was gorgeous, but hot and sweaty 76° F (24.5°C) today. Sunshine for miles. It also happened to be garden prep day. So, the first outfit is for garden/outside stuff and then the 2nd is for the after shower – oh my gosh I overdid it and must lay in bed for 24 hours – outfit. 20250504_111555(2)20250504_111622 (2)

Outfit 1 Top: A tee from my husband’s work and a Walmart tank. Perfect for working in the dirt.

Outfit 1 Bottoms: Now slightly too big Made for Mermaid, Mila Shorts, made July 2022; This is probably one of my most favorite shorts pattern to make and wear, tying the P4P Palazzos as shorts. I have sewn the Mila pattern 5 times now. I love the shorts, these are too big now and will go in the “larger size bin” that lives under my bed. I will just have to sew more! They worked for today and are super comfortable. Made previously: Navy floral, blue stars, gray/black, and Black with roses, navy,

Outfit 2 of the day:

20250504_155732 (2)20250504_155757 (2)

Now closed (sad) Stitch Upon A Time or SUAT, Spoxxy Tank dress. This is another absolute favorite pattern to sew and wear. It is easy, fast, and I love racerbacks. This one is ITY; it’s cooling, comfortable and heavenly. I made it Nov 2019 for a nightgown and it is one of my most worn.

Blogged: https://sunnysewing.com/2020/01/10/spoxxy-tank-and-nightgown-suat/ tank and nightgown. And third https://sunnysewing.com/2022/11/02/2-nightgowns-and-a-tank-love-notions-and-stitch-upon-a-time/ nightgown.

Mr. Bennie Bear had to help with the gardening.

20250504_113844 (2)

Thoughts: These Mila Shorts are a bit too big now since I’ve lost quite a lot of weight recently. But I am back to my “normal” weight before radiation and before brain tumor. So I am sad that some of my recent makes are too big now but excited to get all my previous makes back again, lol. Anyway, love the shorts, these are too big now and will go in the “larger size bin” that lives under my bed and I will just have to sew more!

Day 5 day 5

Top: Essential Tank by Pattern for Pirates, made April 2017. I love this tank. It is fitted at the bust and there is a perfect amount of looseness over the stomach and hips so that I’m totally comfortable.

Bottoms: Palazzo pants (as shorts) also by Patterns for Pirates, also made April 2017. Love these shorts. They are a perfect match for the tank, super comfortable. A nice fold over waistband that puts no pressure on the stomach. This pattern ties with yesterdays for my favorite comfy and quick shorts sewing pattern. (I have sewn this pattern 6 times now).

Blog: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2017/04/tanks-shorts-top-leggings.html

Thoughts: I love this tank and really need to make more. This particular tank I have to wear inside out. Why? Because the seams at the shoulders drive me crazy! They are so scratchy. So, I just wear the tank inside out. I mean, in my mind there is nothing wrong with the tank, it’s a perfectly good tank…. So, I just turn it inside out every time I wear it and go on with my day. It’s an at home tank. Mr. Sunny and Miss K tend to make a comment or make fun of me but you would think that after 8 years of wearing it they would catch on that I don’t care it’s inside out, lol.  Definitely a down day for me. I am exhausted from garden prep yesterday.

Day 6 day 6

Dental Cleaning Today UGH. No fun. It’s 84°F (29°C) today. Which means the dentist’s office and any stores Miss K drags me to will be cold. So this calls for a tank and a cardigan.

Cardigan: Jalie 3248 - Drop Pocket Cardigan, made March 2017. This is another much beloved pattern. I have made several. They are so easy to throw on, have great pockets, and are just perfect.

Top: Love Notions – Rhapsody Top, made Jan 2018. I love this top. It is made with the most amazing Challis! The fabric is from FabricMart; it is so soft and the pattern is tiny fishes. I definitely need more of these tops.

Bottoms: Closet Core Patterns – Ginger Jeans, made June 2017. I love these jeans too! They are like wearing secret pajamas. Really! So stretchy and soft. I’m so glad I fit into them again.

Its not a fun day (dentist); but at least I can be in fun, comfortable clothes!

Blog Cardi: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2017/03/burda-and-jalie.html Blog Top: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2018/01/tnt-renfrew-and-love-notions-rhapsody.html Blog Jeans: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2017/06/ginger-jeans-and-agnes-tanks.html

Thoughts: Love the outfit.  A great “I’m put together and look human” outfit, lol.  Normally I’m a PJ all day sorta homebody so it is nice to look put together sometimes.  I think this Rhapsody top fits perfectly and I’d love to make some more.  I would also like to make the dress version.  It is hard to find a good challis though.  The cardigan? An absolute favorite pattern hands down.  I would wear these all the time.  I have 2 right now but I would have 100 if I could.  The pockets are perfectly placed and they fit so well.  Now the jeans? You know I love them! They are secret pajamas.  It is amazing how different REAL pants that fit feel compared to the ones at the store  Pear shaped bottoms are super hard to fit in ready to wear.  I spent half my life so disappointed and upset when my friends could just buy pants and they would look great, where mine just didn’t fit right.  Now I am super happy I can sew myself jeans that fit the way I want too.  Now I would make a dozen pairs, but I don’t need that many as I don’t go out much.  Plus sewing jeans is such a loooonnnnngggg process… Yes, I love the outcome, but the process is something else.  They aren’t hard to sew just lots of steps.  And like Challis, good stretch denim is hard to find.

Day 7, 73°F (23°C) day 7

I called to set up my root canal appt (for an already crowned tooth…….); they surprised me and said come in today, we have an opening. Uhhhh I was not mentally prepared for that. After a 2-hour root canal I learn I’m a “lucky” person to have FIVE canals in my molar…. Just lovely. I was hoping for a down day today because I’m wiped out from the dental cleaning yesterday. Tomorrow is a checkup on my eye to access the shingles damage to it and see if it’s getting better. I can feel myself spiraling down.  I’m exhausted and just trying to push through.  I went to the appointment and then came right home to bed.

Top: I needed some Cheeto Doxie support for today so I’m wearing my (now slightly too big) Love Notions – Laundry Day Tee, made Feb 2021. Sewn this pattern 5 times now.

Bottoms: One of my most comfortable and favorite pants. Pattern is Burda 11/2007 No.122, Made July 2020. Sewn this pattern 6 times now. There will be more!

Bottoms: my favorite pair of comfy pants. Burda 11-2007-122, made Aug 2020

Thoughts: I really, really love both these patterns.  I made the top just a handful of times but will make more.

I have made the pants many times before (at least 7!).  I love how they fit, how they look, and the ease of sewing them.

</div> </div> </div> Thoughts: Love both these makes.  Had to be comfy to get through the day.  Wish I could say more but I’m exhausted.  I need to make more of both as these are getting a little too big for me.

Day 8, 70°F (21°C) day 8

Eye appt today and Mr. Sunny has taken off work to drive me.  Which is a good thing he is with me because I am barely hanging on by a thread now.  Three hard appointments in one week is just too much for me to handle.  Chronic illness is hard to explain to those who don't have it or live with someone who does.  It is a constant struggle between the things I have to do, the things I want to do, and the things my body will do. I’m trying to overcompensate today for feeling so cruddy by trying to look nice. The nurse at the clinic said, “Oh I love your dress!” and I got to say “Thanks! I made it!”

Top: Jalie 3246 Shrug, made June 2017. Such an easy thing to throw over dresses. I love it for times when it is in between temps where you don’t know if you will need something to cover up or not.

Dress: Boundless dress by Patterns for Pirates, made March 2018. This one shows up every MeMadeMay because I love it so much. Super comfortable. I love maxi length dresses and it has pockets. I used the Boundless pattern for the top portion and then used the Made for Mermaids, Chloe Skirt for the bottom part because the original Boundless maxi is super hard to walk in – being narrower at the bottom. This combination works perfectly and the Chloe skirts fits right onto the Boundless top with no alterations.

day 8a Blog Dress https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2018/03/spring-maxi-dress-and-failed-cardi.html Blog Shrug https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2017/06/everythings-roses-p4p-sweetheart.html

Thoughts: I need more of these dresses and shrugs! I love this combo.  It makes me feel good on the outside even when I feel horrible inside.  I like the fit with my body shape too.

Day 9, 77°F (25°C) mmm25 day 9 Today is a home day, and I need it. Too many appts this week; I’m exhausted. I hope to get into my sewing room for some embroidery today, I have some Rhubarb Crisp to bake, and never-ending laundry. (PS I never got in my sewing room, I didn't’ make the Rhubarb Crisp, and I think I got through the laundry – today was the brewing of a storm in my brain).

Dress: McCalls M6957, initially a fail when I sewed most of it in 2017, but then I gained lots of weight and in Sept 2022 it fit great! So, I finished it and now I love it! So, if you use this pattern, it is VERY oversized and I advise sizing down 2 sizes.

Blog: good https://sunnysewing.com/2022/09/23/a-failed-win-and-a-successful-fail-two-dresses-sinclair-and-mccalls/ Blog initial fail: https://sunnysewing.com/2020/06/28/2-fails-mccalls-m6957-and-5oo4-nancy-dress/

Thoughts:  I like this dress a lot.  I don’t really care for the fabric.  It is soft and cotton jersey so very breathable.  I just don't like how clingy it is, and the fabric collects hair like a magnet.  I would like to make another one of these in a different fabric to see how that feels and fits.

Day 10, 74⁰F (23⁰C) mmm25 day 10

My face shows it, I am feeling like crap today. Completely spooned out. So, I'll keep this short. I love these PJs. This pattern is awesome, Jalie Jeanne Pjs 4016, made oct 2022 (I ended up having a seizure later in the day, unaware of the many more to follow).

Blog: https://sunnysewing.com/2023/03/29/jalie-x3-and-a-snuggie/ Made previously: in super soft black waffle knit dec 2020, and a refashion of Wall-E pants jan 2021

Thoughts: These pajamas are awesome. I love them. I have 2 pairs sewn in very soft fabrics.  I would love another set in short sleeves and shorts and probably would enjoy another long sleeved set lol. One can never have too many comfort pajamas.

There is Week 2 of Me Made May!  I hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane on my makes.  I get all excited when I still have things I wear that I made ages ago.  Makes me smile and feel good. I also love when things fit right – they feel so good.  This was a very busy week for me and you can see my health decline day by day.  I explained in my Week 1 post that this week was the precursor to my ER trip next week, which you will see those MeMade wears in my post next Friday. To sum up this week: Wants: smaller M4M Mila shorts,  more P4P Essential tanks, LN Rhapsody tanks, and another P4P Boundless in a different fabric as all mine are in DBP.  Needs: a Jalie drop pocket cardi in Navy, another pair of Burda 11/2007 No.122 comfy pants. Happy Sewing! Kristin

Daily Outfits in Me Made May Week 1: Challenges & Triumphs

I had the best intentions this Me Made May.  I was so excited and amped up to participate.  I had to sit out the past few years because of my health so I wanted this MMM to be awesome.  Well, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions (Saint Bernard of Clairvaux)."  Things went off the rails and I know I said I would post weekly on my blog of my MMM wearings but. Life. Health. Etc. (Health Update at the bottom of the post.)

So here it is almost July so let’s get to it.

My original Me Made May 2025 Pledge:

I, Kristin SunnySewing, pledge to wear 1 memade outfit per day with NO DUPLICATES for the entire month of May! I intend to find out why those memades I don’t ware often are not worn.  I plan to keep a journal on what I love about an outfit, what I don’t, as well as maybe what I could change to make it a loved outfit.  Also, this will allow me to find the gaps in my wardrobe and know what I need to sew to fil them. Plus I want to wear every make I have in my current size, all month.  (I am down to my “normal weight” again, so most my older makes fit again! yay)! Wish me luck!! I am beyond excited!!

Me Made May Day 1 mmm25 day 1a

Top: Deer and Doe, Plantain, made Sept 2019 (a free pattern!) Pants: Greenstyle, Brassie Joggers, started making Feb 2020, finished Aug 2020. I had to make a TON of adjustments to these pants and I didn’t enjoy them at the start. But I’ve worn them pretty much nonstop since 2020. So, after all the work put into them, they turned out to be a favorite. I would not want to start from scratch again on the pattern though.

mmm25 day 1b

It’s raining here in Western Wisconsin today and it’s a cold 51°F (10.5°C). I just woke up and a squirrel was chewing me out so I had to finish taking my MMM pic inside, lol.

Happy MMM day 1!

mmm25 day 1c Blog top: https://sunnysewing.com/2020/01/13/2-tops-deer-doe-plantain-and-jalie-marie-claude/ Link to free pattern top: https://closetcorepatterns.com/products/plantain-t-shirt-free-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOooEt95uAzeavChkzXJQIA00QSOI1BJTZ6n354E88eJ-Vv8f1pBt Blog bottoms: https://sunnysewing.com/2020/08/14/2-pairs-of-pants-greenstyle-brassies-and-burda-11-2007-122/ Thoughts: I love these two makes. They are both very comfortable. I had no problem wearing them all day. The fabric used and patterns are just a perfect match. I have nothing to change or alter further than what I already did when I originally made the patterns (see those linked above blog posts. The pants are HEAVILY modified). I do think, in hindsight, that I should have worn the top with my gray burda pants as the patches and accents on the top are charcoal. But that is a minor detail. No complaints, love them both. Summary: Love both these makes but separately. Try the top with my blue ginger jeans or maybe my gray ginger jeans or even my burda pants.  Wear these joggers with something else and do I daresay try to make a one size smaller transferring alllll my alterations to the smaller size. MeMadeMay Day 2 mmm25 day 2b

It is still cold here in WI, 51°F (10.5°C). It looks like Sunday the weather will turn warmer to the 70s (21°C) and stay that way all week! Yay! (me above looking for the squirrel that chewed me out yesterday, lol).

Today I’m just lounging around home; laundry, making lotion, doing some database work on my laptop. Basically, I am recovering from being in my sewing room yesterday (chronic illness warrior). Needing to feel comfortable, I decided to wear this today.

mmm25 day 2c

Top: Technically still memade. I made the design on my silhouette cameo wayyyyyy back when I was heavily into my heat transfer vinyl and cameo. (Any Outlander fans out there?) The top says “Craig Na Dun, The journey begins.”

Bottoms: This is one of my absolute favorite patterns for leggings. It is Sew A Little Seam, Movie Night Pajamas, leggings part (free pattern!). Like most of us, we have tried a lot of leggings patterns over our sewing journey. These check all the boxes for me and are super, super comfortable. I made this pair in May 2019 and I wear them all the time. I have sewn this pattern no less than 5 times and love them all. mmm25 day 2a Blog Bottoms: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2019/05/sew-little-seam-movie-night-pjs-plus.html Previous makes: Made Previously 4 other times: Sept 2019 red wine floral, Nov 2019 Snoopy Xmas, May 2019 blue floral, and May 2019 green capri. and a black pair in Sept 21 Pattern info and sizing: The Women’s Movie Night Pajama is a PDF sewing pattern for sizes 0/2 (32″ bust, 36″ hip) to 28 (50″ bust, 54″ hip). The pattern is FREE if you find the code in the Sew a Little Seam Facebook group!

Thoughts: The shirt is a bit high neck for me. Maybe I am just used to wearing baggy tops now. The leggings were comfortable most of the day but very hot when I was up and about doing things (like laundry). I love the feel of the double brushed poly, it is so soft and buttery, but it sure doesn’t breathe well and I get so hot when I wear it. I would like to try the leggings in an athletic knit or a bamboo spandex maybe. No complaints on the pattern, I just want to move toward more natural, breathable materials (now that I have an epic size stash of DBP, sigh). Summary: Love the leggings, try a more natural different fabric for them like bamboo spandex. For the top, make more memade tops and add graphics to those (I have in to some in the past) and stop wearing ready to wear ones that don't fit quite right.

MeMadeMay Day 3 mmm25 day 3b

I woke up freezing. Is Wisconsin ever getting warmer?? (yes actually, it is supposed to tomorrow, lol). Today is 54°F (12°C). I am still feeling cruddy from overdoing it both yesterday and the day before. Since I am freezing, I thought I’d just wear soft and comfortable pajamas all day. Lets be honest here, I rarely leave the house, so I do wear pjs most days.

mmm25 day 3c

Top: Made Dec 2015. Pattern: Ottobre 05/2011 No.4 The top was made to go with the bottoms. And I thought it would work great. But I quickly realized after I made it that it is about 3 inches shorter than I would like. So my stomach is just barely showing and I prefer a longer length. To be fair, the original pattern had a band around the bottom and I didn’t like how it looked so I left it off when sewing this but foolishly did not add length to the pattern. So it isn’t the pattern’s fault here but my own.

mmm25 day 3a

Bottoms: Made Dec 2015. Pattern: Ottobre 05/2011 No.5 These are one of my absolute favorite pair of joggers I have ever made. I have worn these years and years now because they are perfect in every way. They are made of cotton lycra that is so soft and breathable. They are warm but not overly hot. AND they have the best pockets! I need to make more.

Blog top: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2015/12/battle-of-raglans-p4p-vs-ottobre.html Blog Bottoms: https://sunnysewing.blogspot.com/2015/12/battle-of-joggers-burda-vs-ottobre.html Thoughts: I am not sure why I hold onto the top, knowing it is just too short, the cuffs too big and the neck too wide. Bottom bands bother me with a seam by my stomach and I am pear shaped so I just don’t like the look on my tops, so its not an option to add a band to THIS top. I mean I just need to lengthen the top in the future but I had another raglan pattern that works better and fits better right away (the P4P relaxed raglan – as seen on the linked post above of the top, comparing the two). I need to chop this top up into something else, but I just keep holding onto it and then disliking it when I put it on. Wearing it all day, I realize the shortness irritates me and I am finally sending it to the upcycle bin to be made into something else. The pants are love. I have always loved them and they are starting to get a few small holes here and there. But I love them! I need to put them on the make more list. I love front patch type pockets like this, they are way better than inseam ones because I like that I can put my phone in my pocket and it stays, where inseam pockets flop around and I can’t stand that!  Summary: Keep the pants, love them. Make more.  Remake the shirt into different makes like undies and use other Raglan top patterns that fit better.

There is the first week of Me Made May! I will try to do the blog post for week 2 next week Friday.

Here is the health update:

In May, the 1st week was my normal. The second week was mostly normal but on Saturday I had a seizure. I still struggle to control my seizures since my brain surgery in 2021. Most of the medications destroy my stomach. I have been through 10 medications now and have had reactions or GI problems to all of them and so I am on this one and it doesn't hurt my stomach that bad but my liver doesn't like it and it doesn't completely control my seizures. Also, every time I try to increase the dose I have bad side effects. So, I'm kind of in this stuck place. Anyway I still have seizures once or twice a month since 2021 I had one Saturday the 10th of May.  I figure, OK, the 11th I'll just lay low because I usually feel horribly cruddy the next day, rest, and then move on. Well on Monday the 12th I had a really bad seizure, and that isn't normal for me to have one so close to another one. So I was like what the heck? I'm going to lay low on the 13th.

But THEN the 14th I had seizure after seizure after seizure. I call them rolling seizures, my neurologist said it was status epilepticus, either way I had to go to the ER because they just wouldn't stop and the ER apparently didn't know what to do to stop them (which is ironic because years ago my neurologist said if you have these, you go into the ER, they give you IV Ativan, and then the seizures usually stop). However, the ER called up to Rochester and wanted to wait for their answer before they would do anything so I'd sat in the ER for 7 hours having seizure after seizure after seizure. It was exhausting, extremely painful, and I don't ever want to go through it again. I don't know what triggered this. I don't know why this happened, and then at 7 hours the ER decided the new neurologist on call in Rochester said to give you Ativan so within 10 minutes of them giving it to me the seizures stopped.

Now after a seizure your brain is like Jello, horribly painful Jello sloshing around. It took me quite a few days to recover from this and I also had to increase my current seizure medicine and add more emergency control medicine to my already full medication schedule. I met with my normal doctor and my seizure Dr. and we decided on a course of action. I'm just trying to deal with the side effects of that.  This took me down and out for most of May. I'm still all the way through June feeling disgusting. I have had other seizures since that crazy one in May. I just wish my body would tolerate a medication that could control them but that's just not happening and like most people with chronic illness I wish I could understand what triggered it, but it's a mystery like always and so I don't know how to prevent it from happening again. It's also kept me off my laptop and out of my sewing room because those two things, even though I love them, tend to work my brain more.

I went back up to Mayo Rochester GI and their GI department is the worst in my area. I am always treated poorly there and gaslighted and I always have to wait almost a year to see them. It's disgusting. it's absolutely obnoxious what the healthcare industry has come to and I don't know what else to say about that. So, I'm just trying to navigate life and figure out how to live some sort of life with the issues I face. Unfortunately, sometimes I will disappear from social media and it's because I'm suffering and hiding out, or things are not going well. I wish I didn’t have to. I wish life was different. But this is my reality.

I appreciate every one of you who stay along with me, to read my blog posts, to visit me on social media, and I absolutely love reading your comments. I continue with my blog even with breaks in between posts because it’s a way for me to keep track of what alterations I've made, what I like, what I don't like, but also to stay involved with the sewing community that I love so much you all are the best and I am very grateful.  Some of my wonderful sewing friends are like family to me.  You mean the world to me.  And as I said above, I’m not able to really leave the house, so you are my world &lt;3  I love seeing your makes and reading your blogs and posts.  I love feeling like I belong somewhere.  It gives me purpose.  And that my friends is worth its weight in gold in this human experience we call life.

Hope to post more Me Made Mays next week!

Me Made May 2025!

mmm25

I posted this on Instagram today but wanted to post here too.

Me Made May 2025 is upon the horizon and I Am Pumped!!  I had to sit out or half participate the last few years and that really made me sad. I am ready to go full throttle this year!  I have been participating since 2014!  11 years now! Wow!

I will post my daily outfits on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/kristinsunnysewing), and then I will post weekly, my roundup, here on the blog.

I am super excited to be back in the game and as always, I am so excited to see what everyone else does this MMM!!

Will you be joining in on the fun?

Happy Sewing Kristin
