Have you heard of Amigurumi?

I've been working on a crochet scarf for Miss K (since last year...) and I am bored with the repetitiveness of it so I picked up a new book yesterday.

Is this not the cutest thing???

Amigurumi is crocheting animals, little dolls, nature objects, etc.  I was hooked with the cute hamsters!  The book is laid out nice and easy to follow.  I could jump in right away.

I'm hoping I can get a few snowmen and elves made for the kids before Xmas comes.
I enjoy crocheting because it's relaxing and I can do it in bed.  A nice break from sewing too!

How about you?  Do you crochet?

Weekly Sewing Recap

I haven't posted daily this week of my projects because, well, I was busy sewing! :-)  Mix that in with my kids last week of school and things were crazy around here.  Mr. T has left with grandma and grandpa for three long weeks to be out west.  I know he is having fun but mom is sure missing him!  Miss K misses him too and she has been very clingy - and super full of energy.
So here is a bit of what I've been able to get done this week.

From the top: Skirt I made for myself from some amazing fabric I couldn't leave at Hobby Lobby!  Tunic dress for an 18 inch doll.  Mushroom, green and brown grocery bag holder.  2 skirts for an 18 inch doll.  I've also been working on my tank top pattern; it's coming along nicely and I have the muslin just about perfect.  I think I will sew it up tomorrow with my fabric and hopefully get it up on here.  (I also realized Miss K really needs PJ's so I'll be doing some of those next week).

I hope you all had a great sewing week!

Happy Easter! Meet the girl bunny puppet!

So Easter is here and my kids are at Grandpa's.  I totally forgot about Easter Bunny stuff when I agreed to let them spend the night! What was I thinking!! Oh well, I figure the Bunny can hide their stuff before they get back home tonight.
Fast forward to today at noon when I realize I haven't made girl bunny hand puppet yet!!!!!!!! Yikes!  Panic sets in.  Scramble to find all pieces and start to whip her up.  Only took 20 minutes as sweat was beading on my forehead.  I could just picture Miss K, apple of my eye, crying HER eyes out because Mr. T had an adorable puppet and she didn't.  Sigh.

Crisis averted, Girl Bunny Puppet made and I even added a cute pink bow.  What do you think?
I'm loving her!!  Template and all credit for the design goes to The Purl Bee

I had the Easter Bunny type up a cute rhyming letter for the kids and somehow a carrot ended up on the floor by the letter. Oh my! and Easter grass is trailing through the house... did the Bunny sneak into our house?? lol.  :)

Happy Easter to you all!

Easter Bunny Puppets!

Easter time is so fun!  I had my eye on these ADORABLE BUNNY puppets for the last 2 weeks and I was just dying to make some!  I jumped on my favorite fabric site and ordered the materials quick!  They arrived today and I quick made a bunny.  I am planning on putting these in my kids Easter baskets on Sunday!!! I can't wait to see their faces! :)  How cute is this little guy? (apologize for the crazy picture but he is in hiding in the spare bedroom so my kids don't see him).

Want to make some of your own?  They are fast and fun!  Head over to The Purl Bee and get the pattern and instructions!!!

"Black Apple Doll"

So as I await anxiously for my new serger to arrive this next week, I found some other cool projects to try.  Every night I surf the crafting websites for cool things to try.  My daughter is always next to me (bad habit, I know) and she is always peering over my leg, sneaking looks.  Last night I stumbled across these cool "Black Apple Dolls" and she was hooked from the get go.  She wanted one so bad and I figured it was easily doable.  This morning we grabbed some scraps and set to work.  About an hour and a half later we had her done!  Miss K does all the stuffing for me.  The hardest part of this was the tiny legs and arms (I suck at turning things that small inside out!).
Miss K loves her new doll!

Tooth Fairy Pillows!!

I finished these 2 cuties up today! My daughter, Miss K. had to help. She loves stuffing things. The girly one is a Tooth Fairy Princess and the boy one is a Tooth Fairy Police Man. These were super cheap and super fun to make. Next time I'll look for thicker felt though because mine was sort of see through. The mouths on these puppies are a pocket to put the tooth in when they fall out. The part I like most is these hang on a doorknob so the Tooth Fairy doesn't need to go digging under pillows in our house again!!! MMMcrafts has the excellent tutorial on how to make these. Love her site!

As you can see, Miss K. LOVES hers.
And another positive note today; one of my fabric orders arrived! I can't wait to start some more projects. My mom is gone from her house so I think I'll go hunt down her serger.... :)
And I even was able to make time to enjoy the beautiful snow with Miss K. today; we built a cute fort and used food coloring to "paint" it. It was a good day.

Owls! I love owls!! - Archive post 1/18/12

I have a nasty habit of getting sucked into blog surfing in the middle of the night. After I get my five-year old off to sleep and my nine-year old tucked in I sit in bed on my laptop and become absorbed into different blogs. I get lost in the most amazing places and I find lots of fun things to do and try. My husband keeps telling me I have "too many irons in the fire." LOL. Well on one of my late night rampages I found this adorable blog with these insanely cute owls to make!!! I am a HUGE fan of cute little owls so I thought I would try them out.
I picked up the fabric and came home to complete it. Well I then got sidetracked for about a week and eventually came back to it. I printed out the pattern and got to work. It actually wasn't too hard to do! I enlisted the help of my five-year old to stuff the owl; it is now her pet. She hijacked it! She has named it after her best friend and takes the thing everywhere!!! I think it is the cutest owl ever.
Thanks to Hammer and Thread for the super cute tutorial and pictures. If you want to do an owl of your own head over to Hammer and Thread for the info.
And here is Serena the Owl!
